12/4/09 They Watch With Sanctity
They watch with a certain type of sanctity in their eyes. Looking into a glowing haze, as if a god were coming or going. The fading light reflects in them as they are flooded with the colors of impermanence or of the shade of their lover’s hair. Or maybe they’re just thinking of how their lips are dry from ocean winds or how their eyes are moist from staring into something too bright. Most of them know nothing of astronomy – only of keeping their heads above the water. I watch them watch, so I can experience it too.
